Third Pillar of Health will reach its 20th anniversary in 2026. Over the years, we've built deep, subject-specific expertise in data science – shaped by two major studies across multiple industries, spanning 3.3 years, 5,985 working days of data, and more than 175,000 data points.
Our team brings together extensive expertise in mathematics, statistics, sleep science, circadian science, software development and app design. This unique blend of skills has enabled us to create a fatigue risk model that is both advanced and thoroughly practical.
The key foundations of all mathematical models of fatigue are the circadian drive and the sleep drive. Most models of fatigue in the world environment use 'time of day' as a proxy for these two key drivers. It is also important to note that an adult organism is a fantastically complex 'mix' of two main underlying drives that influence fatigue and performance. We have therefore used 'time you've been awake' and 'time you've slept' in all of our analysis. Additionally, our model includes age, sleep duration, and shift rotation, day or night shift, as well as alertness scales and other real-world factors.
Annual costs per 100 workers:
Even in countries with public health services, the cost remains £882 per worker – equating to £88,200+ per 100 workers every year.
